The 'Matamata Panelworks crew' had a great weekend at the Powercruise 2011 event last month in Taupo - and we finally got our photos up on the website and Facebook to prove it.

For those of you who don't know: this is the third annual Powercruise event in New Zealand and it's just going from strength to strength.

You will see Powerskids, Burnouts, Drifting, Drag Racing and the Cruise Sessions!! The event is now onto its 3rd season on our shores and is one not to be missed. With the large selection of cars you really can't go wrong.

With 6 cars entered from the Panelworks team we had to get up really early - and I mean before dawn - to get them all ready for showing. Check out the pics of us - you might make out some bleary eyes - but we were really looking forward to the weekend ahead.

On Saturday, we had the XB Falcon Coupe we took last year and cleaned up the awards, a Ford Mustang Roush, a Nissan Skyline, a Ford Falcon wagon owned by Greig, one of our painters, a Toyota Corolla - owned by Shaun, one of our panelbeaters, and the Mach 1- pride and joy of myself, Malcolm Sankey.

The team had a lot of fun taking turns cruising around the racetrack ...

Some of them got a little too excited ( I wont mention any names ) but they got reprimanded by having their bands taken off them and a time out. ( Bad boys, Greig & Shaun ) Whoops!

There were a few spin-outs on the track by 'other' people. But most drivers seemed to have their moments where they were being a little too frisky on the pedal.

Everyone had a great time and all had a turn round the racetrack ...

The great thing about this was not having to queue as we had a pit garage so we were able to keep going out and giving people rides. Apart from this we all had the pleasure of watching the controlled skids, burnout comps and the drifting which a few of our boys had a go at as well.

To our delight, our Ford Mustang Roush took out the 'Best Interior', 'Best Paint' and 'Best Show Car' for the day in its class ( Congratulations to Mike Pearce, the owner ). Two years in a row, I think that's pretty impressive. We will have to see what we can pull out of the box for next year. Once you set a standard you have try and keep up to it or better it so ... I think we will better it.

It was the teamwork of everyone pulling together to make this happen that made it such an enjoyable, memorable weekend.

Well done team.

Cheers,

Malcolm
Sankey ( Sanks )
